1282418 Joining carpet sections THOMAS FRENCH & SONS (ELECTRICAL) Ltd 22 Oct 1969 [2 Nov 1968] 52035/68 Heading A4S [Also in Divisions B2, B5 and H5] A method of joining the edges of carpet pieces 16 includes the steps of locating at a butt joint between the two pieces of carpet a tape comprising an open weave fabric with electrical resistance elements 10 e.g. wires or foils, to act as heating elements, forming at least a part of the warp of the fabric or overlying the fabric whilst extending in the warp direction thereof, and a coating of thermoplastic material covering at least the surface of said resistance elements, passing an electric current through the elements to render the thermoplastic coating material adhesive and applying pressure to adhere the tape to the pieces, the resultant assembly being cooled or allowed to cool. The warp yarns 11 may be of cotton or rayon, the weft 12 preferably comprises filamentary plastics reinforced with filaments of fibre glass. The thermoplastic material may be polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. The fabric may be supported by a perforate sheet of plastics reinforcing material or by a paper backing. |
