PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car navigation system in which a user can know the detail of a point to be arrived at next while confirming a current position at the time of guiding a course. SOLUTION: A microprocessor 24 calculates the current position of a car from various sensors 11-13, sets a goal depending on a command received from an input unit 14 or retrieves a guide course to the goal from a CD-ROM 15. The microprocessor 24 also retrieves a point, e.g. an intersection, to be passed next by the car from a retrieved course data. Furthermore, a map data on the periphery of a calculated current position and an enlarged map data in the vicinity of a retrieved point are read out from the CD-ROM 15. A display 17 is controlled to display the map on the periphery of a current position specified by the read out data and the enlarged map data in the vicinity of the point during course guide. |
