PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect an existing LAN as the same subnet, without adding a new function by containing an ATM(asynchronous transfer mode), an ARP (address resolution protocol) server and a gateway part and the gateway part, including a LAN virtual interface part, an ATM virtual interface part and an ARP converting part. SOLUTION: An ATM network consists of an ATM and ARP server S and a gateway part GW. The gateway part GW assigns a MAC(media access control) address, that includes an IP(internet protocol) and an ATM address of an ATM terminal A, assigns an ATM address that includes a LAN virtual interface part IF1 that terminates an LAN and a MAC address of an IP terminal D that belongs to the LAN, and includes an ATM virtual interface part IF2 that terminates an ATM network and an ARP converting part V that mutually converts both address resolution protocols.
