The output of a fluidized reactor such as a generator producing a fuel gas from particulate coke is controlled by adjusting the average particle size of the solids in the fluidized bed maintained within the reactor. To effect a change of average particle size solids are withdrawn from the fluidized bed and replaced by solids of a different average particle size. In addition or alternatively the withdrawn solids may be screened and particles of a selected average particle size returned to the fluidized bed. |
