PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the appearance of false feature and to reduce the number of sub-fields, by switching and selecting output from an error spreading process for each system according to gradation level of image data, and by driving each sub-field based on the selected output. SOLUTION: Output from a gradation correcting circuit 3 is sent to a false gradating circuit 4. The false gradating circuit 4 is equipped with a first error spreading processor 41 (5 bits treatment), and a second error spreading processor 42 (4 bits treatment). The outputs from each error spreading processor 41, 42 are sent to a selection circuit 5. The selection circuit 5 selects one of outputs from both error spreading processors 41, 42 for each data according to a pre-determined rule, and sends it to a conversion circuit 6. The output from the conversion circuit 6 is sent to a signal processing circuit 7, and the signal treatment circuit 7 controls a plasma display panel(PDP) 8 so that writing and luminescent controlling of a corresponding sub-field is performed for each bit of sent data. |
