PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform constant inter-vehicle distance follow-up traveling in safety even on an entering lane, e.g. an interchange of highway or an uphill lane, into which a vehicle enters at low speed. SOLUTION: The lane width detecting section 35 of a laser distance measuring equipment 21 detects a laser pulse L reflected on a road side reflector installed on a guide rail, or the like, thus detecting the lane width or the road width. An entering lane detecting section 36 detects an entering lane based on the variation of lane width or road width. A travel control section 22 enlarges the detecting region from its own lane to other lane when an entering lane is detected and monitors an entering vehicle. Subsequently, traveling speed of its own vehicle is controlled depending on the speed or inter-vehicle speed of the entering vehicle. |
