Embodiment of a pipeline repair system are disclosed. Two hollow, half-cylindrical shells are provided which from a shell around the section of pope to be repaired. Means are provided for sealing off any liquids c1 gases escaping from the pipeline and venting off such liquids or gases safely away from the work area. Becose the repair is welded, because of the design of the pipeline repair system, and because the materials used to construct the shells are stronger than the materials used in the pipe, the repair is as at least as strong as the original pipe and does not rely upon gaskets, resins or other repair materials which may deteriorate or shrink. The pipeline repair system is effective under water as well as under other conditions.
