DATA PROCESSOR AND ITS OPERATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a flexible system in which proper power and temperature management can be attained in a digital computer system. SOLUTION: A data processor 10 introduces an instruction rule or a 'slot ring' circuit 31 for limiting power consumption. A user visible register maintains an 'interval' field, and instruction fetched from an instruction cache 14 is periodically delayed by the 'interval' field. This 'interval' field can be adjusted so as to be suited to the power budget and supply of the data processor.
