PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect even a storage medium excepting an optical disk without thrawing a power source when the loading of the storage medium is confirmed. SOLUTION: A light source required for detecting the loading of the storage medium is constituted so that the light 10 from the outside is taken in by a light incident window 4 and a light guide part 6, and a light receiving part 7 is provided on a relative position holding the storage medium 9 therebetween on the outgoing axis of the light from the light guide part 6. The light receiving part 7 makes the light from the light guide part 6 at a display window 5 provided on a front panel 2 of an external storage 1 reach as the light 10b. Then, the loading is detected by whether or not the light 10a of the light guide part 6 is interrupted by the loaded storage medium 9. Thus, since the necessity that the light source is provided in the inside is eliminated, the necessity that the power source is turned on is eliminated, and excess power isn't required even while operating. Further, it is possible that the loading of even the storage medium absorbing the light excepting the optical disk is confirmed clearly by the display window 5.
