PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent swerving at a neutral time by maintaining, when a shifting is performed from a traveling state to a neutral stage, the neutral position of a transmission if an engine speed or a speed difference between an engine and a transmission input shaft is increased, and returning the transmission to the original traveling stage if it is decreased. SOLUTION: An automatic transmission is composed of a shift lever 1, a car speed detector 2 or the like, a controller 3 and a transmission 4, the controller 3 receives a shift command S1 from the shift lever 1 and a detected car speed V from the car speed detector 2 and, based on a pre-stored program, it selects an optimal speed stage and outputs this to the transmission 4. Then, for example, in a second speed traveling time, when the shift lever 1 is changed to an N position, a signal S2 is outputted to the transmission 4 and then the transmission 4 is placed in a neutral position. Then, the change of an engine speed (n) is calculated by the controller 3 and, if the engine speed is increased, the neutral position is maintained, and if it is decreased, control is made to return the transmission from the neutral position to the original second speed. |
