FORMATTING ENABLE PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projector capable of giving a formatted image by using film having encoded format information by providing a sensor arranged to read out image format data related to a frame and a driving device displacing a formatter. SOLUTION: This projector is provided with a light source radiating collimated beams, and a film holder arranged to hold the individual frames of film in the beams. The projector is provided with the formatter which can be displaced between plural different format positions and partially covers the beams at the format position. It is provided with a projection lens system 122 receiving the beams propagated through the film. It is provided with the sensor 172 which is arranged to read out the image format data related to the frame and generates a signal in accordance with image form information. The driving device displaces the formatter between the format positions in accordance with the signal.
