PROCESS FOR SEPARATING PHOSPHINE OXIDES AND AN ALKYLARYLPHOSPHINES FROM REACTION MIXTURES OF A HOMOGENOUS HYDROFORMILATION.

The invention refers to a process for separating phosphine oxides and alkylarylphosphines from the organic reaction mixture of a homogenous hydroformilation which was effected by means of use of a catalyst system which contains metalorganic complex compounds such as aromatic phosphine ammonium salts, in molar excess, like ligands. The process is characterized in that the organic reaction mixture is subjected to an extraction treatment with alkaline hydroxide solution or earthy-alkaline at 0.001 to 0.5 percent in weight; and then the aqueous phase containing the phosphine oxide and the alkylarylphosphines are separated; through the use of the extraction in accordance with the invention it is possible to significantly reduce the concentration of phosphine oxides and alkylarylphosphines in the hydroformilation mixture. The process is especially adequate for hydroformilations effected in a continuous manner.
