A transformer has first (14) and second (17) windings which overlay a ferromagnetic core (1, 2). The windings are wound on a bobbin (3) having a core (19) and flanges (13). The ferromagnetic core extends into the core (19) of the bobbin (3). The core (19) of the bobbin (3) has a first layer (11) of tape wound with its tacky surface away from the core (19) of the bobbin (3). The first winding (14) is wound on the tacky surface of the first layer (11) of tape. A second layer (15) of tape is wound on the first winding (14) with the tacky surface of the second layer (15) of tape positioned away from the core (19) of the bobbin (3). A second winding (17) is wound on the second layer (15) of tape.
