The grater comprises a housing (2) with pressure component (5) and crank handle (8), the grater drum (7) being accommodated in a cylindrical portion (6) of the housing. The cylindrical vessel (10) with a flat bottom (11) and open at the other end (12) fits onto the protruding edge (9) of the cylindrical component, and is removable. A cover can be provided for the vessel, having an edge protruding inside the vessel. It has one or more openings, typically slots extending radially from the centre. The openings can alternatively be sector-shaped, or the cover can be in two parts turning in relation to each other and each containing a semicircular opening.
