PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for reading bar code by reading both a two-dimensional code and a bar code. SOLUTION: A code reader 2 is mainly composed of a CCD sensor 4, binarizing circuit 6, image memory 8 and control circuit 24 and especially when decoding the bar code from image data, at the control circuit 24, the plural representative check lines of scanning lines set at certain prescribed intervals are set among all the scanning line signals to be outputted from the CCD image sensor 4. By decoding the check line signals outputted from these plural set check lines, it is judged whether the number of check lines having the same data corresponding to decoded bars and spaces is a prescribed number or not, and when it is the prescribed number, these data are fixed as the read data of bar code. Thus, time required for reading the bar code can be shortened. |
