PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device by which display is easily confirmed as necessary regardlessly of brightness on the periphery and operation is facilitated. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an LCD 18 for displaying the photographing information of the camera, an electro-luminescence element(EL) 19 for illuminating the LCD 18, a stroboscopic circuit 23 for irradiating a subject with auxiliary light, a switch input part 24 for detecting the on-state of power, a film state detection circuit 11 for detecting the loading of film, automatic loading, automatic rewinding and the change of the frame number, and a CPU 1 having a set time variable timer for controlling the lighting time of the EL 19. When change is found in the detected information, the CPU 1 sets the lighting time in accordance with the content of the change so as to light the EL 19, and when the stroboscopic circuit 23 is in the midst of charge, the CPU 1 inhibits the lighting of the EL 19.
