The head has a series of ink jet nozzles positioned in two rows and set inside two housings (20,21) which are offset transversely and lengthwise relative to the direction of movement and set at a given distance from one another. The head incorporates a system for moving one of the housings in a transverse direction relative to the article to be printed and for moving the other one at an angle to it, so that during the printing operation one of the end nozzles in one row coincides with the position of an end nozzle in the other row.
