<p>A new system and method for displaying one or more blinking objects on a computer display device is disclosed that includes selecting, responsive to a current display phase, between a first sub-field and a second sub-field within color information of a pixel value for each pixel within the blinking object. The disclosed system generates a color table index for displaying a given pixel within the blinking object. The color table index is generated based on a contents of the first sub-field of the color information within the pixel value during a first display phase. The color table index is generated based on a contents of a second sub-field within the pixel value during a second display phase. The disclosed system may read an index from the pixel value into a pixel interpretation table. The entry in the pixel interpretation table obtained with the index includes a shift value. The disclosed system then shifts the color information in the pixel value by the number of bits in the shift value to obtain the appropriate sub-field of the color information for the current phase. The device driver modifies the shift value to change which sub-field is used to display the blinking object. Thus there is provided a new system for displaying blinking objects capable of displaying large numbers of blinking objects simultaneously, which does not require high utilization of the CPU, and which does not require an application software program to draw, erase, and redraw each blinking object. <IMAGE></p> |
