1,130,288. Recovering SO 2 from aqueous liquors. DUISBURGER KUPFERHUTTE. 20 July, 1967 [23 July, 1966], No. 33399/67. Heading C1A. SO 2 is recovered from aqueous liquors containing SO 2 by desorbing SO 3 under reduced pressure whilst heating the liquor to give a mixture of SO 2 and steam, and increasing the SO 2 content in the mixture by condensing the steam by heat extraction in a plurality of successive stages, the pressure being increased from stage to stage by means of steam jets. The heating may be effected by evaporating liquids from a vacuum cooling system in which the heat absorbed by the cooling water during condensation of the steam is dissipated again, optionally by means of steam jets, so that the cooling water can be re-used. The SO 2 containing water of condensation of each stage may be allowed to expand from the bottom of that stage into the preceding stage. The SO 2 may be only partially separated to give a mixture of SO 2 and H 2 O which is reacted with air or O 2 to form H 2 SO 4 . |
