This invention comprises polyanionic benzylglycosides of benzene triacid amides of the general formula I <IMAGE> I wherein each of R1, R2, R3, and R4 are, independently, H, SO3M, or <IMAGE> and each oligosaccharide group contains 1 to 3 sugar groups; M is lithium, sodium, potassium, or ammonium; n is 1 or 2; X is a halogen, lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or lower alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Y is carbonyl or sulfonyl; or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, as well as their use as smooth muscle cell antiproliferation inhibitors and as therapeutic compositions for treating diseases and conditions which are characterized by excessive smooth muscle proliferation. |
