SOLUTION: In the method for producing the metallic iron by heating and reducing the shaped body A containing the carbonaceous reducing agent and the iron oxide, the formed body is supplied into molten iron or molten slag S on the molten iron. The formed body is floated up on the molten iron Fe or the molten slag S so that a part or a large part thereof is substantially exposed to a high temp. gas atmosphere in a furnace, and the iron oxide in the furnace body is reduced and the produced reduced iron is contained into the molten iron.
