PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the stable expansion behavior of an air bag in the air bag device for a passenger seat equipped with the air bag which is expanded so as to be swelled out of an instrument panel and the like by means of gas emitted out of an inflator. SOLUTION: An air bag 16 is equipped with a bag main body 22 having a specified expansion shape including an occupant restraining surface, and with a swelling part 24 arranged over an area from its mouth part 22a to the occupant restraining surface 22b. The swelling part 24 tied to the occupant restraining surface 22b is swelled by means of gas emitted out of an inflator 14 at the early stage of air bag expansion, the bag main body 22 is expanded while the swelling part is left as is swelled, so that the expansion of the air bag 16 is thereby completed.
