PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a silicon nitride sintered compact excellent in mechanical strength, capable of increasing heat conductivity in a specific direction and having anisotropy in heat conduction. SOLUTION: This silicon nitride sintered compact consists essentially of silicon nitride, a proper auxiliary for accelerating sintering and impurities, has anisotropy in heat conduction and has >=90W/(m.K) heat conductivity in a direction (X direction) in which the highest heat conductivity is ensured. In the texture of one section (Y face) 4 among faces parallel to the X direction, grains existing inside <=±20 deg. angle from the X direction account for >=50% of total coarse grains of >=3μm diameter. In the texture of a section (Z face) 5 perpendicular to the Y face 4 and parallel to the X direction, grains existing inside <=±20 deg. angle from the X direction account for >=50% of total coarse grains of >=3μm diameter. |
