<p>Wood is treated with a solution of a dye, (insoluble or only slightly soluble in water), in a water miscible solvent, and then fixing the dye in the wood by precipitating with water. Wood can be dyed to a considerable depth in a desired shade. In the case of veneers, the entire thickness of the wood is dyed. The dyes wood can be subsequently treated, e.g. by drilling or repeated polishing, without the original colour of the wood appearing.</p> |
