FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: piston of internal combustion engine has head with at least two grooves for piston rings, skirt and bosses with holes for piston pin. Head has crown with heat dam located under first piston ring. Piston is made of composite material consisting of matrix aluminium alloy including silicon (Si) in amount of 11-26 volume percents and reinforcing agent in form of particles of silicon carbide (SiC) or aluminium oxide, ((Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>)) or mixture of particles of silicon carbide and aluminium oxide ((SiC and Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>).).
