Stable fuel water emulsion free from alcohol, useful in internal combustion engine without catalyst

Fuel-water emulsions consist of 60-80 wt.% fuel, 0.5-5 wt.% water-soluble, petrol-insoluble emulsifier(s) (I) and 1-10 wt.% water-soluble, petrol-insoluble polyalkylene glycol (II) as stabiliser, rest water and optionally other additives. (I) comprises (A) polyethylene glycol monoether(s) of formula R-O-(CH2CH2O)x'-H (IA), (B) ethylene oxide/propylene oxide block polymer(s) (IB) with 40-80 wt.% ethylene oxide units and/or (C) polyethylene oxide mono-(2,4,6-tributylphenyl) ether(s) of formula (IC); in which R = 8-18 carbon (C) alk(en)yl or 9-14 C alkylphenyl; x' = 8-30; x = 10-30. Also claimed is a method of making the emulsions.
