A method and an apparatus for displaying motion pictures. In the embodiment shown in the figure, a substantially transparent and faceted cylindrical body (203) including a series of motion picture images (209a, 209b) imprinted on each one of the facets (207) of the cylindrical body (203). When the cylindrical body (203) is rotated about the longitudinal axis (205) of the cylindrical body (203), the images (209b) on the opposite side of the cylindrical body (203) to a viewer are observed through the interior of the cylindrical body (203) through the facets (207) of the cylindrical body (203) near the viewer. When the cylindrical body (203) is rotated about the longitudinal axis (205), the facets (207) of the cylindrical body (203) wipe across in front of the images (209b) behind the facets (207) on the opposite side of the cylindrical body (203), such that each image is dissolved into a neighboring or adjacent one of the series of motion picture images (209a, 209b) to produce an animated effect.
