The seat has a base section with upward projecting column (14), and a seat. The column has a mounting box for a mounting part (28), and is formed as a linear guide for the part. The part is adjustable relative to the box, and is fixed by a locking device. A spring element (86) with at least approx. constant spring force is located between box and part, to almost compensate for the weight of the mounting box. Th spring element is a leg spring with a coiled central part (88) and two projecting spring legs (82,84), which enclose an acute angle. One spring leg is fastened to box the other leg is fastened to the mounting part.
