SEAT BELT LATCH SENSOR SYSTEM

A diagnosable seat belt latch system for use in a vehicle seat belt system provides a latch assembly (40) incorporating a force sensitive sensor (90) interposed between a latch housing (20) and a pressure distribution bushing (80). A pivoting latch arm (42) having a latch tab (48) at one end for engaging an orifice of a seat belt buckle transfers a compressive load to the force distribution bushing (80) and thereby to the force sensor (90). A signal processor disgnoses the force sensor (90) to determine whether the seat belt is latched and sends a control signal to a vehicle safety restraint system.
