The telecommunications call management system (250) comprises line units (258) being installed between a telephone set (256) or a personal computer (257) and at least one or more Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) (260); a tariff data server (252) storing, providing, and updating rate information data to all line units; and a local computer (254) connected to the tariff data server via either a wired or wireless communications link. Each LEC, in turn, is coupled to one or more long distance carriers (264) labeled 1 through M. When more than one LEC is available, local client computer calculates the least cost LEC, in addition to the least cost long distance carrier, and instructs the line unit, via either a wired or wireless communications link, to steer the call to that LEC. Local client computer controls the determination of the telephone dialing string corresponding to the optimum LEC and long distance carrier.
|
