In a combined hydraulic and mechanical gear drive (T), power taken from an input shaft (9) powered by a motor (E), is sub-divided by a gear arrangement (3), and transferred to first and second output shafts (10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}1, 10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}2). An infinitely-variable hydrostatic gear (2) hydraulic pump (24) is driven by a first output shaft (10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}1), while its hydraulic motor (25) is powered by a second output shaft (10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}2) through a mechanical gear assembly (1) and the hydraulic pump (24). The input shaft (9) is linked to a main oil pump (Pm) and the shaft (9) turns at the same speed as the motor (E). The first output shaft (10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}1) is linked to an auxiliary oil pump (Ps). The first output shaft (10{SYMBOL 218 /f "Symbol"}1) speed declines towards zero with an increase in the speed of the motor (E). Oil is pumped by both the auxiliary pump (Ps) and the main pump (Pm) within the low motor (E) speed range. Oil is pumped only by the main pump (Pm) within the high motor speed range.
