A level indicator, in particular for a motor vehicle tank, has a resistor network mounted on a fixed support. An output signal which corresponds to the position of a floater that follows the level of a liquid can be derived from the resistor network. A level indicator which operates without wear and can be economically produced has a contact structure (18) associated to the resistor network (14). Under the influence of a magnet arrangement (5) movable by the floater (2), the contact structure (18) can be deflected to establish an electric connection which depends on the position of the floater (2).
