According to the inventive method, ATM telecommunication terminals (KE1...4) are assigned to a telecommunications network in an ATM ringed network structure, wherein each ATM telecommunications terminal (KE 1...4) is allocated a ringed network address (EA, GA), and ringed network access and ringed network communications are specifically controlled according to the ringed network. By mapping one ringed network address (EA, GA) identifying one or more ATM telecommunications terminals (KE 1...4) in the virtual channel identifier (VCI) of ATM cells, an emulated ringed network structure -LAN emulation- can be easily realized.
