A commercial vehicle gearbox is linked to a clutch plate (7) which moves between the engaged and disengaged positions. During the gear selection process, the clutch plate (7) is axially held in the engaged position by metal flanges (6) until the selection process has been completed. A sinusoidal spring (5) is located between the push-sleeve (1) and the clutch plate (7). The spring (5) is pre-tensioned by the gear disengagement process, so that in the disengaged condition the clutch disc (7) can immediately engage in the loose gear wheel (8), shortening the gear change travel.
