The method has the article to be coated earthed and impacted by a cloud of powder passing between a pair of plate electrodes with the aid of compressed air. Compressed air (2) is applied to a space (3) beneath a porous plate (5) by which small powder particles enter a fluidised bed reservoir (6). The powder is delivered as a cloud (17) through jets (7) by air jets (12,14) and the powder id drawn into the ducts through holes (16). Plate electrodes (8,9) are positioned on either side of the ducts and are energised by a high voltage supply (11) through a limiting resistor (22).
