Hollow absorber rods for nuclear reactors

The absorber rods are of the type that are charged with preferably ball shaped fuel elements which can be freely inserted into the rods and the end of the rod which is immersed in the loading material has one or more openings through which the fuel elements may be drawn and which lead into one or more clearly defined channels. The ends of the rod are shaped in such a way that the rod may rock about the end. The rod may be of an elastic construction or the lower end may be fixed to the rod by a movable joint such as a ball and socket joint or a gimbal arrangement.
