The packaging machine has a vertical feed tube (1) around which the plastics foil (2) is wrapped and sealed into a tube via a longitudinal weld head (5). The bottom of the tube is sealed with a cross weld (6) and the filling is loaded via the feed tube. The filled bag (13) is supported by grips (12) and raised to remove the strain on the plastics foil prior to sealing with a top cross weld. The feed tube is rectangular and the cross seal welds complete a rectangular pack. The lifting action of the supports enables the top sealing grips to expel surplus air out of the pack before sealing.
