The variable valve control operates through two parallel camshafts and a valve operating lever. There is an adjustable stop in the form of a setting screw (23) on the casing for setting the initial position of the valve operating lever. The setting screw may be in the region of the valve end of the operating lever, which may have a stop surface (22) diverting from its longitudinal direction. At least two of the valves acted on by the operating lever have a common stop between them.
