A piezo-electric actuator is disclosed having two blades each fixed at one end to a rigid connecting position such that respective opposite surfaces of the two blades are held in facing relation to each other. Respective other surfaces of each blade then have one or more piezo-ceramic layers disposed thereon arranged to deflect each blade member in a direction away from the other blade member upon energisation. A push-button latch mechanism employing the piezo-electric actuator is also disclosed. |
