A fabric where pile yarns (10) for forming a raised pile are inter knitted with and extends from yarns (12) providing a ground structure, both yarns formed from multifilament synthetic filaments. Pref. each filament of the ground yarn being not greater than 1.50 denier, the pile yarn filaments no more than 1.00 denier where the total denier of each ground yarn is not less than 50% of the total denier of each pile yarn.
