<p>Process for the prepn. of pyrimidylmethylpyridinium and alkylpyridinium salts in which a soln. of a thionyl halide is added to one of an alkylformamide in an organic solvent in stoichiometric proportions to give a nonmiscible product (I): (where Ro is lower alkyl, and X is Cl or Br) to which is then added an alcohol ROH to give (II). (II) are then quaternised with a pyridine to give (II; R2 = H or lower alkyl, pref. in posns. 2- or 4-). A typical product is 2-propyl-4-amino-5-pyrimidylmethyl-2-methylpyridinium-p-toluenesu- lphonate bromide.</p> |
