1,036,802. Coating apparatus. KNAPSACK A.G. March 5, 1964 [March 5, 1963], No. 9364/64. Heading B2B. Elongate bodies of circular or other crosssection are coated by passage upwardly through an opening in a gas pervious plate used to support a fluidized bed of the coating material, the body being heated sufficiently to cause adherence of the coating material. Pipes 8 are passed downwardly in the first instance through a circular opening defined by pervious plates 2, 2<1> and are then drawn upwardly through the fluidized bed 15 of coating material. The pipe may be heated by heating means (not shown) which are external to the apparatus or by a high or low frequency heater 14. Fluidizing gas is supplied to the plates 2, 21 by pipes 11, 12 respectively. Sealing members 9, 10 are provided to prevent loss of coating material through the gaps between the walls of the article and the pervious plates 2, 2<1>. If the outside only is to be coated a cap is fixed to the upper end of the pipe while if internal coating only is required a strand member 18 is used preventing contact with fluidized coating material externally of the pipe. Other cross-sections may be used the aperture in the pervious plate having a corresponding shape. |
