PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal hydride storage battery having an excellent lifetime characteristics and efficient discharging characteristics by adding at least one kind of metal oxide or metal hydroxide, which has a reduction electrical potential lower than the intrusion electrical potential and higher than hydrogen generating electrical potential of a hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION: In a hydrogen storage alloy electrode, surface treatment with acidic solution (at 0.5-3.0pH) is performed to the hydrogen storage alloy, and while at least one kind of metal oxide or metal hydroxide having a reduction electrical potential lower than the intrusion electrical potential and higher than the hydrogen generating electrical potential of the hydrogen storage alloy are added. As a metal oxide or metal hydroxide, Fe3 O2 , Fe3 OOH or Fe(OH)3 is used. Intrusion electrical potential of the hydrogen storage alloy means an electrical potential (Hg-HgO reference) in the alkaline electrolyte of a hydrogen storage alloy electrode in the discharging condition. This hydrogen storage alloy electrode is used as a negative electrode. |
