PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser diode array assembly which is provided with an integral means which records the operational event of the assembly and, at the same time, keeps the information on the operational event together with the assembly through the service period of the assembly and a method for operating the assembly. SOLUTION: A memory device 42 which is integrally mounted on an array 30 and stores the operational information of the array 30 is accessible from an out-host operating system. The operating system decides the mode for supplying electric power to the array 30 based on the operational information and sets the memory device 42 to a writable state, so that the operating system can record such an important event as the critical operating state, abnormal operation, turning-on time, shot count, etc., of the array 30 in the memory device 30. A laser diode array assembly 40 is provided with a sensor 44 which is connected to the operating system. |
