1,210,987. Selective printing. P. F. M. GLOESS. 22 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968], No. 20420/69. Heading B6F. A selective printer comprises a print wheel 10 continuously rotated by a motor 1, a timing wheel 20 having a magnetic tooth 21 which induces a start pulse in a winding 23 for transmission to a computer, a second timing wheel 30 having magnetic teeth inducing character pulses in a winding 32 for transmission to the computer, and a keyboard 50 having keys 51 each comprising two electrodes the capacitance between which is increased when a finger is touched on to the key. The electrodes of each key 51 are connected respectively to the winding 32 and a corresponding printed character electrode 43 which forms a capacitance with an electrode 410 on a rotating arm 41 and a printed strip 42 connected to the winding 32. As the arm 41 passes a character electrode 43 which corresponds to a touched key, a pulse is issued through an amplifier 60 to the computer to effect impression by triggering a solenoidoperated hammer 11, Fig. 1. The print wheel may be cylindrical as shown with peripheral embossed types on flexible fingers (12, Figs. 3, 4) or may be a planar disc with radial fingers bearing axial tyres (Fig. 7).
