The rail bed for an underground railway, a street railway, railway bridge crossing etc. has a rigid dished plate forming the bedding, on which the flat support for the rails is carried by an elastic intermediate layer, shaped so as to transmit and dampen the vertical and lateral load. The plate forming the bedding has at least one groove running lengthways with the rails, and a projection on the rails support plate extends into the groove and is enclosed across its full width on its undersurface, by the elastic intermediate layer. The system reduces the amount of noise and vibrations developed. The bedding plate and the support plate may be of a highly resistant material such as steel, reinforced concrete etc., and the intermediate layer consists of an elastomer, possibly a synthetic foam, or a mixture of bituminous binders with a mineral filling. |
