1,050,682. Tufting needles. CALLAWAY MILLS CO. July 2, 1963 [Aug. 17, 1962], No. 24566/66. Divided out of 1,050,681. Heading D1G. A hollow needle for tufting has an axial passageway extending longitudinally therethrough, a first orifice through which yarn can be introduced into the passageway, and a second orifice through which fluid can be introduced into the passageway to urge the yarn therethrough, the diameter of the first orifice being greater than that of the second orifice. As shown, a tufting machine has hollow needles 20 formed intermediately with inclined passages 46 through which air passes from a chamber 40, enclosing the upper parts of the needles, to feed a pair of yarns 22, 24 through the bore 21 of each needle. The needle bore may-be subdivided or portioned to minimise contact between the yarns. |
