PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve KANJI (Chinese character) conversion rate by discriminating and storing the information of a present area corresponding to respective character strings in the case that the character string for converting an inputted HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) read string is place name data and preferentially converting a conversion candidate relating to the discriminated present area at the time of converting the HIRAGANA read string inputted at the next time. SOLUTION: In a read-only memory ROM, in addition to the procedure of control by a microprocessor CPU, the relating data of a dictionary referred to at the time of performing KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI conversion that are the fixed data of a KANA/KANJI conversion dictionary KNCNVDIC and the fixed data of an area information dictionary LOCALDIC storing area information in the case that the word of the KANA/KANJI conversion dictionary is the place name data, are stored. In this case, at the time of converting the inputted HIRAGANA read string to a prescribed character string, the present area is automatically discriminated by the dictionaries. Then, at the time of converting the HIRAGANA read string inputted at the next time to the prescribed character string, the conversion candidate is preferentially converted relating to the automatically discriminated present area. |
