1294141 Artificial internal organs KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO Ltd 27 April 1970 [7 May 1969] 20123/70 Heading A5R [Also in Divisions B2 B5 and C3] Artificial internal organs are formed from a solution (S) formed by selectively dissolving with HCOOH a fraction (H) of relatively high M.W. from a solid polymer (P) of a γ-alkyl glutamate (G), the lower M.W. residue (L) being filtered off, (P) may be in the form of a film. The alkyl group may contain 1-8 C atoms. (P) may be a homopolymer or a copolymer of (G), e.g. with an amino-acid (A). Preferably 50% wt. of the copolymer is (G). It is surmised that fraction (H) is in an α-helix form with intramolecular H-bonds whereas (L) is in a form with intermolecular H-bonds, having a reticular structure. (A) may be e.g. L-, D-, or DL-alanine, glutamic acid γ-ester, aspartic acid #-ester, O-substituted serine, threonine, or tyrosine, methionine, N-substitute lysine or ornithine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, or tryptophan, whose functional groups may be masked. |
