[Also in Division F2] A drier cylinder comprises a hollow metal open-faced or honeycomb cylinder 10 formed from radially disposed plates 14 separated by corrugated strips 15 welded to the plates 14 along the areas of contact, a perforated metal cylinder 11 overlying and covering the outer surface of the cylinder 10, and a porous, sintered fibre metal cylinder 12 overlying and covering the outer surface of the perforated cylinder 11 and sintered thereto. Means for rigidly attaching the cylinders 11, 12 as'a unit to the honeycomb cylinder 10 comprises U-shaped brackets 18, the side walls 22, 23 of which are inserted in and permanently attached to the opposite walls formed by plates 14 and strips 15 of the openings in the honeycomb cylinder 10. The brackets have apertures in the base 21 for studs 19 secured as by welding at their upper ends to the cylinder 11 and engaged at their lower ends by threaded nuts 20 to exert tension on the studs. The cylinders 11, 12 are formed as narrow side-by-side strips wrapped around the cylinder 10. |
